The platelets contain "growth factors" in high concentration. Growth factors are used by the body to facilitate repair of injured tissue. When the growth factors are activated in the body, they signal other cells to repair a compromised area. Blood is drawn into a syringe and placed into a specialized centrifuge (spinner) that separates the platelets into serum. The serum with the platelets is injected into an area of the body where "repair" or improvement is needed. The serum can also can be applied topically (on the surface) of an area that has had a laser or microneedling treatment. The result is promotion of local tissue growth and repair of damaged tissue.
